Light It Up

Does anyone else love driving through really nice neighborhoods at night? From the street you can get a glimpse inside these big, beautiful houses with the soft, warm glow of lamps inside and bright beautiful lights lighting up dressy landscapes.

I love the way a lamp looks right at dusk and into the evening. The way it makes the room seem cozy and warm is my favorite. Every time I go antiquing I look for lamps for our home. The problem is that they are all way too expensive! I think Home Goods and Amazon have way better deals! I’m on the hunt for some new lighting. We got new sconces for one of our staircases, since some little boys and some very big boys decided to play a little too rough with Nerf guns one night. I’m looking to put a lamp in every room and eliminate more of the overhead lighting. It’s just so cozy! Here are some I’ve got my eye on and some we already own.

Endangered Arts {Art Gallery in Hilton Head}

There is an art gallery in Hilton Head that is absolutely delightful! It’s called Endangered Arts. The owners are Clay and Julie Rogers. She runs the gallery and is a professional photographer. Her love of the ocean and all the creatures that inhabit it is evident when speaking with her. She is kind, warm, and friendly. Her husband, Clay, is a self taught painter. He paints all the things you might see in Hilton Head. They have many works of art from many different artists from all over the world. I was so impressed by every single piece of art there.

We went in looking for a painting that would remind us of our favorite place. Julie helped us figure out exactly what we wanted. We ended up choosing a Clay Rogers painting. He wrote a special personal note to us on the back and included the practice sketch he’d done of the painting. I walk by it every time I go into our bedroom. It makes my heart happy to have something as a visual reminder of the place we love so much. A visit to Hilton Head wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Endangered Arts.

Plates on the Wall

Having lived my whole life in the South, I am shocked that I had never seen plates hung on a wall until I was an adult. Maybe it just didn’t fit in with the shag carpets and orange and green color scheme of the 80s or the huge floral and bright brass touches of the 90s. That’s actually just a guess. I have no idea why I just am getting in on this. I’m frequently late to party when it comes to home decorating.

I saw it in a magazine first, then on one of my favorite blogs (Dixie Delights). I instantly loved the look and with a new house with lots of naked walls I needed plates STAT!

I asked for them for my birthday and nothing happened. Then I asked for them for Christmas from the one person I knew would come through…my sister. She is one heck of a gift-giver. It’s a talent and that girl’s got it! So, I got my plates. I ordered the hangers. I cut out templates of the plates and hung them in different configurations until I found the perfect one and then I was ready to hang them. All I needed now was for my husband to hang them. I waited and waited. For months I waited. I finally took the papers down.

Then I asked the one person I knew who would come and get it done…my niece. She and her wonderful husband arrived ready to hang some plates. He is more meticulous than my husband and I, so it’s probably for the best that we didn’t do the hanging.

It looks fabulous in my opinion. I love looking at that wall. I love that Baby David always says Tasha and Jason every time he goes into the dining room. I also love that every time I look at it I think about the people who bought them and hung them…my family, the people you can always count on.
