We had a science themed birthday party for my two girls whose birthdays are a week apart. For the goody bags, I included Dum Dum lollipops (since we weren’t Dum Dums), a solar system pencil, syringe pens, safety goggles, nose pencil sharpener, brain splat ball, brain eraser, magnifying glass, Bath and Bodyworks antibacterial hand sanitizer, and some eye ball candies. Everyone was so excited to see what they had to take home. I can’t wait to share all the details of our science party soon!
For our Spider-Man birthday party we had several games to play.
One was “Spin The Prey”. Groups of two would take a roll of toilet paper and spin their partner in it until the roll was empty. The fastest three teams went against one another until we had a winner.
Another game was “Web Blaster”.We took a box and marked it like a dart board and shot our “web blaster” aka silly string at it.
We had our unwrapping game. I take grocery bags and layer them around a little gift . The children sit in a circle and pass the wrapped item taking off one bag then passing it to the next child. For this party, I had gotten blue and red candies from The Fresh Market.
We had a nice time at the Spider-Man birthday party and now it’s off to plan the next!
One of the things at our little man’s party that ended up being so fun was the photo booth.
We just set up the foyer with a backdrop (tablecloth) and some buildings (boxes). We provided masks (David’s collection) and some signs and let our guests have fun with it. The boxes were various ones from our many orders from Amazon. My crafty daughter painted them black and then stuck aluminum foil squares on it to make the windows.
The signs were from a blog and were part of a pack of free printables. We laminated them and placed them in the dress up box.
I loved how creative some people were.
This was just such a simple thing; but it really added such a fun and memorable touch to his party.
I always love putting together a cute goody bag for the party-goers to enjoy at home. I try to make everything fit with the theme in some way. For this party, I let David paint his hand print on a white bag and when it was dry, I made it into a Spider-Man.
We filled the bag with fun little things. Each bag had a silly straw (Target’s dollar bin), strawberry applesauce pouch and Avenger fruit snacks (both from Kroger), Spider-man gummy, sweet tarts, and a lollipop (Wal-Mart). It also had a container of silly string (Dollar Tree or Target’s dollar bin) which had a label on it that said “Web Blaster”. It was a free printable from Reading Confetti. I also put some Spider-Man stickers and a bug viewer (both from Oriental Trading) in each bag.
Everyone seemed to enjoy their treat to take home.
For my little man’s birthday party, he chose the Spider-Man theme. He has loved Spider-Man since I can remember. I ordered adorable invitations from Cindy’s Event Creations Etsy shop. I always try to make the children’s invitations with a picture of them on it; that way the people who we invite have pictures of the children at each age. I think they turned out so cute! We put Spider-Man stickers on the back of the envelopes for a little extra Spider-Man touch.
Since having David, I have bought him a shirt with the theme of his birthday and his name or initial for every birthday. They are sweet reminders of how he has grown. I also ordered this from another Etsy shop called Auntie Donna’s . It is perfect and we all loved it!!
I highly recommend both these shops as great places to get these Spider-Man necessities.

My little man is having a Spider-Man birthday party. I always make a trivia game for every party. Some people love them, some hate them, but I think they’re fun and at least you walk away having learned something. I’m going to be telling all about his party over the next few days (hopefully), but wanted to give you the preview of the trivia game. I used Homoarakhn font from Fonts2U. We had a beachy theme for my husband’s birthday since we both are having major beach withdrawals. He wanted a rum tasting party. So, to go along with the theme, I made rum cake. Now, he wouldn’t try it because it had flour and sugar in it, but the rest of the party-goers were all for it. The cake must be made well in advance because it has to soak up the rum butter sauce for at least 12 hours. It was an easy cake to make, but does take patience. The adults all loved the cake. I will tell you, that this cake was actually better one to two days after the party (so 2 to 3 days after it was made). It has a little bit of a sugary crunch on the outside and is very moist on the inside. I got the recipe from King Arthur’s website. I am listing the ingredients, but go to their site to find out how to make it.

Last year, bubbles were the baby’s favorite thing.
I ordered a birthday shirt from Etsy shop, boutiquesewunique.
We had bubbles as the theme for his second birthday party. We had lots of bubble gum, actual soap bubbles, bubbles made from gelatin, and bubbles made from slime, bubbles made from food. We had bubbles made of everything.
I tried to make the foods as circular as I could to resemble bubbles. I made a fruit tray and balled all the fruit. I made cake balls. I got cream puffs. I made cheddar balls covered in bacon. I made rice krispy treat-like balls out of Trix cereal.
We made a slimy bubble solution out of glue and liquid starch. We then raced to see who could make bubbles out of it with a straw. This was hilarious because it was very challenging. Most of the children quit and then adults just kept going and going.
I can’t remember where I got the recipe originally, but this site has one.
Nana was the first to get a bubble.
Lillian got one too!
We then made bubble art. I placed bubble solution and washable paint in several different cups. The children had to blow into the solution to make bubbles and then place their paper on top of the bubbles. Several of them looked amazing. It was very messy and definitely requires an adult nearby.
We also had a bubble blowing contest. We went two at a time. Then we got to a small group of winners and had a contest between them.

We had a huge bubble pool in the back. I got a kiddy pool. Placed lots of dish soap, glycerin, and a little water into the pool. I used about a cup of Dawn, 4 tablespoons of glycerin and turned on the hose until it looked like enough water. A child would carefully step inside (it’s VERY slippery) and then two children would stand on opposite sides of a hula hoop and gently life up the hula hoop up the top of the child. If it worked out, the child was enveloped in the bubble. It was my favorite activity. When everyone had done it that wanted to, we then just made huge bubbles. I bought a huge pack of different shaped wands. There were bubbles everywhere!
I didn’t get a single picture with the kids inside the bubble, because I helped every single one.

We had bubble cake. We made bubbles to place all over the vanilla cake. This was done by mixing gelatin, water, and food coloring together. The ratio is 2 parts cold water to 1 part gelatin. Mix until dissolved. We then took balloons that we’d blown up. We dipped them into the solution holding onto the part you blow. We then placed them into muffin tins mouth part down. We let them dry for about two hours, then dipped them again. Any part that was too thin, we used a paintbrush to put on more gelatin solution. We let them dry for 48 hours. Then we popped the balloon and handled them very gently and placed them on the cake. I thought they turned out so cute!

When I was in the hospital with my first baby it was Shark Week. For years, we knew the start of school was right around the corner when Shark Week was upon us. For the past couple of years though, Shark Week on Discovery Channel has been in June. I wish they would’ve kept it the same time as always. Last year, I was planning all kinds of festivities to go along with the week. Then I realized I had already missed it. I was so disappointed! Since I know it starts this Sunday, I can use the plans I had last year.

I bought a few things from Amazon. I got some shark plates, cups, and toys.
I know they sell shark fruit snacks at Kroger so I’ll be getting some of them.
On Monday, we will have a seafood dinner in honor of Shark week. I got the recipe from The Fresh Market. We’ve had it once before, and it is so good!
Baked Blue Cheese and Lime Shrimp
Ingredients
2 lbs. 21-25 ct peeled & deveined shrimp
juice of 2 limes
1 stick unsalted butter
1/4 c. heavy cream
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
2 oz. blue cheese, crumbled
1/2 tbsp. hot sauce
1 (14 oz.) box brown rice
– paprika, to taste
fresh parsley, to taste
Preparation
Preheat oven to 350º. Place shrimp in a single layer in a 9×13-inch baking dish; drizzle lime juice evenly over shrimp and set aside.
In a 4-quart pot over high heat, melt butter; add cream and bring to a boil. Add cream cheese, blue cheese and hot sauce, whisking until smooth. Pour cheese mixture over shrimp and bake for 20 minutes in preheated oven.
Meanwhile, cook rice according to directions on package; set aside and keep warm.
Serve shrimp and cheese sauce over cooked rice; garnish with paprika and parsley.

I threw a baby shower for one of our nieces and she wanted a purple and teal color scheme. The colors look so pretty together and she was going to decorate the nursery in those colors so it seemed like the perfect idea.
I bought the gumballs and grape sticks from Oriental Trading.
We got the wooden monogram from Scrappin Plus. We also decorated with paper balls and fans. The orchids matched perfectly.
I got the cake and cupcakes from Publix bakery. Those glass balls are antique fishing balls that just happen to match the theme. They are among my favorite things.
This was a bow headband making station. I bought all the supplies on Etsy. I also got the purple bow holder from there as well.
We also had a block making station. I bought wooden blocks from Amazon and then different purple, teal, and gray scrapbook papers and cut them to fit. We just decoupaged them on with Mod Podge.
This was an insert in the invitation. I think this is a sweet idea for any baby shower.
We played a Price Is Right game with baby essentials and then gave them to the mother-to-be.
We served brunch. We had a make your own Belgian waffle table and some egg casseroles. We also had a cinnamon roll casserole and chicken salad with croissants since those were the mommy’s favorite. We also served fruit, coffee, orange juice, and mimosas for the non-pregnant people.
Overall, we had a very nice time with a simple color themed party.
